Apple is surely interested in their demographics, so why wouldn't the Republicans be?
Because the image is getting browner and browner, more and more, ah, "ethnic", and telling a story of the USA they do not particularly approve as being out of line with their version of the USA, reality and humanity?
When I have a little free time, I think I'll check out what the Republicans had to say to Americans when the census came under their watch of duty in the White House.
Meanwhile, here is a sampling of the idiocy coming out of their camp for the 2010 census.
A terrible, terrible, dangerous thing... for them. Five words: keep them out of power.
